Why Uganda Bagged 3 Awards in the 5th AFRIMA

Jubilation in Uganda continues uncontrolled as joy surfaces the entertainment industry despite the deep sorrow that tormented the entire country on Saturday night as many Ugandans lost their lives in a capsized boat on Lake Victoria.

 

This is another year in raw of outstanding success being put up by Ugandan musicians in the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) that are held every year as they scoop at least half of the awards out of the total nominations.

 

This year, Uganda was able to receive the following nominations;

singer Bebe Cool was nominated for both Best Male artist in Eastern Africa and Best Artiste/Group in African Rock, Sheebah Karungi for Best Female Artist in Eastern Africa, Irene Namatovu for Best Female artist in Eastern Africa and Best Artiste/Group in African Traditional, Video Director Sasha Vybz for Best African Video, Sandra Nankoma for Best Female Artiste In African Inspirational Music (Kaddugala).

It is of such unbearable happiness that out of the six nominations, 3 AFRIMA trophies were brought home and these included;

Bebe Cool – Best Male artist in Eastern Africa and Best (Song: Freedom)

Irene Namatovu – Best Artiste/Group in African Traditional (Song: Nsambila Nyuma Nga Janzi)

Sandra Nankoma – Best Female Artiste In African Inspirational Music (Song: Kaddugala).

 

It should also be remembered in the previous AFRIMAs, Uganda was able to win the following awards:

2017, 2 awards; Eddy Kenzo (Best Male artist in Eastern Africa and Album of the year in Africa).

2016, 3 awards; Cindy – Best Female artist in Eastern Africa (song: Still Standing), Kuseim – Producer of the year (Mbilo Mbilo), Unique – Song writer of the year (Song: Njogereza by Navio).

2015, 1 award; Jose Chameleone – Song Writer of the year (song: Wale Wale).

2014, 1 award; Radio & Weasel – Best Reggae, Ragga and Dancehall (song: Breath Away).
