Uganda’s hopes of a spot at next year’s one-day World Cup are over, after crumbling to their fourth successive loss at the Qualifier tournament.
In a rain-shortened game at Mt Maunganui’s Bay Oval, Namibia prevailed by 100 runs making it three wins from three and putting them right on track for the Super Six stage.
Uganda won the toss and inserted Namibia, who managed 161-9 in their 36 overs. Opener Louis van der Westhuizen led the way with 52 from 71 balls, featuring a single four and six.
Left-arm opening bowler Charles Waiswa took four wickets, and was also the most economical of the bowlers, conceding 30 runs off his eight overs. In reply, Uganda collapsed in a heap to be all out for just 61 in 17.5 overs.
Opening bowlers JJ Smit (2-6 off four) and right-armer Louis Klazinga (4-27 off 5.5) struck a couple of early blows each to set Uganda back big time at 12-4. Medium-pacer Christi Viljoen captured 3-16 off five and Sarel Burger 1-10 off three to continue Uganda’s demise.
No 4 batsman Phillimon Selowa (23 not out) was the only player able to resist the attack, with extras next best on 14 and no-one else able to make more than seven.
