Government To Investigate The Delayed Procurement Of Graduation Gowns By Makerere University

By Wycliff G; Government of Uganda through the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority is launching an investigation into the procurement of graduation gowns by Makerere University.

The University, in 2017, contracted Team Uniform Limited to supply and sale graduation gowns to Makerere University graduands over a period of time.

However, last week, it was revealed that the company had only supplied 6,383 gowns, 900 caps, and 6,792 hoods, which are insufficient to cater for the over 13,000 graduands this year.

According to the PPDA the Ag Executive Director, Mr. Uthman Segawa, PPDA law ascertains contract amendment and therefore, Makerere University was required to amend the contract with the gown supplying company to seek sourcing of raw materials from Uganda if scarcity was sighted.

Therefore, the company will be required to undergo thorough investigation by the PPDA team.
