Boys will always be boys! Faced with a sharp decline in the attendance of male students, with most turning into truants for lack of enthusiasm for academia, a university in China decided to hire devastatingly beautiful teachers with the hope of boosting attendance. True to form, the strategy seems to be working wonders because it has since brought the attendance rate of male students to a historic high.
Authorities at Sichuan Normal University say they have discovered that some of the male students who always make some of the classes look bigger than normal are never there for the lessons only. A good number actually attend those classes so that they can check out and ogle at the hot teachers.
Photos of some of the attractive female teachers have become a hot topic on Chinese social media websites. Some of the good-looking teachers specialise in a variety of majors, including singing, dancing, artistic design, theatre and English.
Confirming that the campaign was a big hit, a teacher surnamed Xu, who is in charge of the university’s social media publicity department, told local press that the teachers were selected based on their popularity, academic achievements and physical appearance.
“Students are now willing to take their lessons. Some said they would sit in on extra classes just to see these beautiful teachers,” he said.
Despite the generally positive feedback, there were a few comments that criticised the learning institution for relying on the physical attributes of its female teachers to promote itself.
