A 40-year-old woman has been hacked to death by yet unidentified assailants in Mwitanzige Sub-county, Kakumiro District creating panic among residents. The deceased was identified as Nalongo Lilian Tugume a resident of Mukatebe village in Mwitanzige Sub-county.
Her body was found on Monday morning in a pool of blood in her room and her neck cut off.
In an interview with Daily Express, Jonathan Kyalikunda the Mukatebe village chairperson says he was called by the deceased’s daughter informing him about the tragedy.
“The deceased was a peaceful and law-abiding resident operating a restaurant to earn a living and it’s a shock to me and residents to her killed,” Kyalikunda said.
Frank Ompaire the Mwitanzige Sub-county chairperson says it is not the first time such crimes happening in the area and adds that at least 6 people have been killed in the period of three years in a similar way.
“This case needs thorough investigations because the habit is becoming rampant in the area, in the period of three years we have lost six people in a similar manner which is so embarrassing”. Ompaire said.
Ompaire later asked residents to be vigilant to people whom they associate with and in case of any suspicions, they should immediately report to the authorities.
Meanwhile, Julius Allan Hakiza the Albertine Regional police spokesperson condemned the act and called for vigilance among the residents. He also asked village chairpersons to register all people in their areas for easy identification.
The body of the deceased have been taken e Kakumiro Hospital for a postmortem.
