9One person has been pronounced dead and two others critically injured after two vehicles collided head-on along the Kabale-Ntungamo highway in western Uganda.
Police have identified the deceased as Edson Tweheyo, a resident of Kaharo in Kabale district, but was yet to identify the injured, who by press time were reportedly admitted at Rugarama hospital in Kabale township.
The Sunday (August 15) night accident happened at around 8:00pm at Bukinda trading centre in Rukiga District, police said in a statement released on Monday.
The statement said the accident involved a ‘a silver blue box body Fuso truck’ reg. number UAL 227W, and a ‘dark blue RAV 4 vehicle’ reg. number UAX309E.
According to the Police, Tweheyo, who was an occupant of the RAV 4, was critically injured along with two other people in the same vehicle.
However, he died on arrival at Rugarama hospital in Kabale township, where he had been rushed.
The statement said both vehicles are currently parked at Muhanga Police Station pending IOV’s inspection and to establish the likely cause of the accident.
According to the police the accident has been recorded as a ‘Serious Accident that Turned Fatal’ under reference number TAR/27/2021.
