A building that houses staff at Kalangala Health Center IV has been gutted by fire. The fire which broke out at 10.00 pm in the night left five medics in property loss projected in hundreds of millions.
However, the main Hospital building, theater and wards were not affected by the fire. An eye witness Pascal Kasasa told this website that the cause of the fire has not been established yet.
However, the officers at Kalangala Health Center IV were left with no beddings and other utilities.
“Also uniforms and several important documents have been lost. We managed to use fire extinguishers at the facility to immediately put out the fire without spreading.” Said one of the Health Facility staff who is not authorized to speak on behalf of the Health Department.
The facility has been grappling with limited space to house all staff at the major health center in the island district. It has also been struggling to close the several pourus entry points with at the health Center.
The burning of the staff quarters down leaves Kalangala Health Center IV with more challenges including the housing of staff further increased unfenced premises and the lack of enough Infection Prevention and control kits for health workers.
The In charge of the facility Dr Suuna Micheal, last year told this website that Kalangala Health Center IV also struggles with limited funding for Primary Health Care and thus cannot ably handle all facility challenges.
Police in the island district has already started an investigation into the cause of the fire at the facility staff quarters.
