By Wycliff G; Earlier this week during the Presidential COVID-19 address, H.E YK Museveni brought back to life hope of over 2500 Ugandans who are stranded in the diaspora ever since the Pandemic hit the globe.

According to President Museveni, its high time the returnees are carried back home if they are willing but must be ready to undergo the set Ministry of Health Guidelines of instant COVID-19 Testing and mandatory quarantine.

They should also be ready to foot their travel and quarantine expenses in case the government’s budget is strained.

There is total number of over 2Million returnees comprising of; students, tourists, business persons, workers, who had travelled to countries like; China, USA, France, Canada, South Africa, among others, all desperate to fly back home for COVID-19 relief.

However, it will be risky to jet back such a huge number for the country’s current COVID-19 Medical capacity is still limited, President Museveni noted.

Therefore, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Uganda’s ambassadorial board, a selection of over 2500 returnees in a dire-state abroad has been made and is preferable according to President Museveni.

In the same line, a total number of 13 returnees were permitted to fly back to Uganda from Ethiopia where they have been stranded for the last 3months. These included United Nations and African Union workers who had travelled on Visas of their duties across the globe.

These have been tasked under mandatory institutional quarantine for more than 17days by the Ministry of Health.
