Ex-Miss Uganda 2005-2007 Juliet Asiimwe enters Rukungiri woman MP race

Five people have expressed interest in the Rukungiri district parliamentary by election to fill the position of Woman MP. Among them is former Miss Uganda Praise Juliet Asiimwe Akankwatsa who will be running as an independent candidate.

Asiimwe who was Miss Uganda for the year 2005-2007 also aimed for Miss World beauty pageant in China in 2008. Asiimwe, the first daughter of reverend Elly Akankwasa and Mrs Joice Akankwasa, did Mass Communication at Makerere University Kampala.

Former Kinkizi FM employee Elizabeth Kyoshaba Mutemba from Buyanja Sub County is also running as an Independent. Mutemba aka Elizabeth Queen was among the judges for the 2016 Miss Uganda competition where Leah Kagasa aimed for Miss World pageant.

Another candidate is Sheillah Kirebete from Nyarushanje Sub County who is also running as an Independent. The other two are; Winfred Masiko Komuhangi (NRM) and Betty Muzanira (FDC) who have been battling in court over the same seat. The Electoral Commission (EC) released the road map for Rukungiri Parliamentary by-election setting 31st May as voting day.

According to a letter dated April 5, 2018 and signed by the Acting Electoral Commission Chairperson, Hajjat Aisha Lubega Basajjanaku, the programme will commence with an update of the National Voters’ Register from 16th to 20th April in each of the 87 parishes and wards in the district.
