Barbie Itungo Kyagulanyi has narrated how her husband was blocked from flying out of the country for further treatment. On Thursday afternoon, Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine checked out of the Rubaga hospital where he was receiving treatment for the last two days. He was carried out by people close to him, through the rare gate of the hospital.
On reaching Entebbe airport, Bobi Wine, who was being wheeled on a stretcher by medics was stopped by police that had earlier deployed heavily at the airport. He was later put into a police ambulance and driven by police back to Kampala. According to his wife, Bobi was later dumped at Kirudu hospital.
“Bobi has been violently arrested by Security forces at Entebbe airport as he was heading to Washington, USA for treatment even when he has clearance from court to travel. He has a medical report from Lubaga hospital recommending urgent medical treatment abroad. He told me that as soon as they closed the ambulance doors, he was again brutally beaten in front of a government doctor. They switched off the lights in the ambulance and started battering him! Bobi is now back in pain and he is dumped at Kirudu hospital. He has missed his flight and time is running out. There is something we’re not getting. By denying him access to medical treatment, do they need him disabled for life? We also strongly object to their doctors forcefully trying to administer treatment or draw samples from him. The same people who have acquiesced in torturing him cannot be trusted with his body,” Barbie said.
Earlier on Thursday, police blocked an ambulance carrying Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake from accessing the airport.
Police said Zaake did not have CID clearance to travel abroad. He was reportedly travelling to the US, after his family had made private arrangements for him to get further treatment.
