Police on Friday evening allowed Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi, aka, Bobi Wine, and his Mityana Municipality counterpart Francis Zaake to travel out of the country after they were subjected to a medical examination by nine doctors. Bobi Wine and Zaake were on Thursday evening blocked from travelling abroad for specialised treatment and police subsequently booked them into government’s Kiruddu hospital, a satellite hospital of Mulago.
But on Friday evening, police confirmed that after subjecting Bobi Wine to thorough medical examination, he is free to travel. Police spokesperson Emilian Kayima, in a statement, indicated that after the torture allegations against the MPs were brought to their attention by Uganda Law Society, they had to ascertain whether this was true by subjecting him to a medical test, which he said had to be done in a government hospital.
He said after subjecting Bobi Wine to the tests by a set of 9 medical doctors, he is now free to leave hospital. Mr Zaake was also cleared to travel after signing documents with police.
Mr Ofwono Opondo, the executive director of the Uganda Media Centre, also dismissed fears that Bobi Wine could be rearrested, explaining that after the medical examination, the MP was free to do what he wanted, including travelling abroad.
We understand Bobi Wine is currently at Entebbe airport on his way out of the country.
