Dear Mr President, immediately drop all charges filed against Robert Kyagulanyi and his colleagues – US Writes To Museveni On Bobi Wine Treason Charges

The US has written to President Yoweri Museveni asking the Uganda government to drop treason charges against singer and Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine and his co-accused.

Bobi Wine returned to Uganda from the US last week. will go to court at the start of next month for the hearing of his treason charges. He and over 30 others face treason charges relating to the August 13 violence in the West Nile town of Arua.

On Friday, the House of Congress wrote to Ambassador Mull Katende of the embassy of Uganda in Washington DC telling government to drop charges against Bobi Wine. “We urge the government of Uganda to immediately drop all charges filed against Robert Kyagulanyi and his colleagues,” wrote Congress.

“We also call for a thorough investigation into all allegations of violence against Kyagulanyi, his colleagues, demonstrators and journalists,” reads the letter. Congress further warned that “suppressing political dissent is a dangerous trend – one must be reversed if Uganda wants to truly embrace democratic ideas”.
