How Police Deputy Spokesperson Patrick Onyango Survived Assassination; Hospitalized

Officers Thursday night rushed SP Patrick Onyango, the Uganda Police Force deputy spokesperson, to a health center after suspected assassins tried to harm him. The incident happened in Kireka near Kampala. SP Onyango was travelling on a bodaboda (commercial motorcycle) when the suspected assassins attempted to abduct him at around 11pm local time.

The suspected assassins were using a bodaboda and had reportedly been trailing Onyango. Available reports indicate that the rider of a motorcycle on which Onyango was travelling increased his speed away from the suspected assailants until he reached a small gathering of people.

It was this move, the reports further claim, that made the suspected assassins ride to another route at break-neck speed.

Onyango, in an attempt to save his life, had reportedly jumped off the bodaboda.

He sustained injuries and was receiving treatment at a health facility the force was still cagey about.

The attempted assassination comes on the heels of the murder of former Buyende District Police Commander (DPC) Muhammad Kirumira at Bulenga in Wakiso district.

In March 2017, assailants gunned down former police spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi in Kulambiro.
