The Late Business lady Suzan Magara’s key murder suspect goes by names of Mr Patrick Kasaija alias ‘Pato’, was extradited from South Africa where he has been hiding for more than a year.
Pato is a Ugandan Citizen commonly known for cruising around in posh motor vehicles with personalized number plates named ‘Pato’. He is alleged to have left the country carrying the ransom money paid by the family of the late Susan Magara after her murder.
“It’s true Patrick Kasaija alias Pato, arrived this afternoon (Wednesday) upon being extradited from South Africa,” police spokesman CP Fred Enanga confirmed.
Police said Pato is currently detained at SID Kireka and has been granted access to his lawyer.
“Arrangements to interview him and also investigate his defence in the alleged murder of Susan Magara are in place. Immediately after, the case file will be forwarded to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for perusal and probable sanctioning,” CP Enanga said on Wednesday evening.
Apart from video footage of Pato passing through the airport, he is implicated by phone call exchanges between two other suspects Bob Kibilango and Ronald Asiimwe also known as Kanyankole. Kibilango and Kanyankole were dropped from the list of suspects in April 2018 and as the investigating started pursuing a different line of investigations.
Suzan Magara was kidnapped on February 7, 2018 along Kabaka Anjagala road as she was driving to her home in Lungujja.
He is said to have travelled to South Africa on February 25, 2018, just a day after the ransom worth Sh700 million was paid to the kidnapers under the names of Patrick Kasaija.
Ugandan crime investigation authorities and DPP have insist to have piled adequate evidence pinning Pato for having kidnapped Suzan.
However, Police confirms there has been such a long tire between Ugandan and South African governments regarding Pato’s extradition process as they had routinely failed to agree on jetting the key suspect.
We will keep you posted.
