By: Shifrah Kayaga: Organizations under the civil society budget advocacy group CSBAG, have rejected any proposals to exempt members of parliament from paying over the top tax or OTT, a tax charged for one to access the internet.
Recent proposals from the house indicated that MPs will get at least 5GB monthly data bundles at 30,000 shillings for the 458 legislators. On top of that, parliament will also foot the 6,000 shillings monthly Over the Top (OTT) tax also known as social media tax, for the MPs.
However, this is to all be got by using the common man’s tax fee and according to different civil society offices, it’s a burden to people’s rights as citizens of Uganda.
