By Wycliff G; After the relaunch of the national carrier, Uganda Airlines, Ugandan government sights at reducing dominance that had been set by the Ethiopian Airlines in the East African aviation business for decades now.
During the inaugural flight ceremony held at Entebbe International Airport on Tuesday 27, Ugandan Airlines CEO Ephraim Bagenda said it will initially fly to seven regional destinations in Kenya, Tanzania, Somalia, South Sudan, and Burundi.
Here is the weekly operational route for the two CRJ900 Bombardiers Uganda Airlines;
✳Entebbe-Nairobi, inaugural flight 10 am August 27
✳Entebbe-Juba, 10x weekly from August 27
✳Entebbe-Mombasa, 3x weekly from August 27
✳Entebbe-Nairobi, 2x daily from August 28
✳Entebbe-Mogadishu, 4x weekly from August 29
✳ Entebbe-Kilimanjaro, 3x weekly from September 22
The airline plans to launch flights to destinations in south and central Africa, come November this year.
However, it’s still a notable disadvantage for the revived airlines since air traffic in Africa is forecast to grow at a rate of 6% per year for the next two decades.
This means its growth will be twice quickly as in mature markets.
Odds are high that the Ugandan government will extensively exploit its Tourism and upcoming Oil & Gas sectors to sustain the revitalized airlines in this international air traffic.
