By Wycliff G; People Power’s Abubaker Kawalya has been announced the new Kampala Capital City Authority Council Speaker elect.
This is after he dominated the ballot box with 17votes beating FDC’s Doreen Nyanjura (14) and Muhammed Segirinya who ended it with only a single vote for himself.
The elections were carried out earlier on Thursday morning at the KCCA chambers.
Mr. Kawalya’s role will with immediate effect take over role of presiding over council meetings, which initially has been done by the Lord Mayor.
On the same note; Kyambogo University’s Mr Buruhani Byaruhanga, also won the Deputy Speaker seat after he gathered 18 votes compared to his incubate Doreen Sabuka with 13.
This time round , none of the votes cast was invalid.
