Uganda Confirms 5 New Corona Virus Cases, Rising It To 14

By Wycliff G; The Ministry of Health has on Wednesday confirmed five new COVID-19 cases in Uganda.

According to the Minister of State for Primary Health Care, Dr. Joyce Moriku Kaducu Press address, the five cases include three locals and two Chinese.

The confirmed 5 new Corona Virus cases’ breakdown is; a 63year old resident of Najjanankumbi- Kampala who had travelled from Germany in the past weeks, a 57year old business man in Adjumani district, border of Uganda and South Sudan, an 8 months old baby whose father traveled from Kenya about a week earlier, 2 of the 6 Chinese that were got in Zombo district.

This brings the number of confirmed cases to a total of 14 in Uganda.

 

To date, a total of 2,661 travelers including Ugandans identified, 1,230 are under follow up, 764 are under institutional quarantine, 466 are under self-quarantine, 1,431 high risk travelers have completed their 14 days of follow up.

Following the Ministry’s appeal to all individuals who travelled from Dubai in the past 2 weeks, a total of 574 individuals have been listed countrywide.

The Ministry of Health has so far screened 60 travelers at Mulago National Specialized Hospital.

Dr. Mwebesa further directs all persons who travelled from Dubai in the past 2 weeks to come to Ward 2A at Mulago National Specialized Hospital (New Mulago) for assessment.

Following the declaration of the COVID-19 outbreak, the Ministry of Health has increased the capacity of our call center to handle more calls at the same time effective today. Call center agents have been increased from 20 to 100 and will continue to work in shifts for 24 hours daily.
