Uganda’s Public And Private Transport To Resume In 2 Weeks

By Wycliff G; As the COVID-19 Pandemic infection and mortality rate lowers in Uganda, the government is now set to lift the lockdown that has lasted for over three months.

One of the priority sectors that have been lined-up is the transport which has been okayed to resume in the next two weeks.

This follows the President Museveni’s twist in the COVID-19 Pandemic directives that will permit both private and public means of transport to reopen by June, 2, 2020 countrywide except in border districts.

However, Museveni said all will have to observe the Ministry of Health’s set Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) of all passengers wearing face masks, and vehicles carrying only half of their licensed number of passengers.

He also noted that the new directive is only favor other means of transport except Boda bodas and Tukutukus that will be permitted to carry language.

Museveni further said that it’s too very early for Uganda to open its air transport section as the COVID-19 Pandemic status in its neighboring states is still worrying.
