RIP: Maj. Gen. Kasirye Ggwanga, 68, Breathes His Last

By Wycliff G; Its really a miserable 31st Heroes day to celebrate in Uganda as one of its top Military officials, Major General Kasirye Ggwanga being announced dead.

The Late Kasirye’s has been having an intermittently health for quite a long period of time.

His health worsened earlier this year as he routinely laid complaints of a terrible headache and he was immediately switched to serious medication with hope of reviving his life.

On a sad note, Maj. Gen. Kasirye’s condition deteriorated into comma last month and he was admitted to Mbuya Military hospital before being transferred to Nakasero hospital where he met his death today.

The Late Ggwanga had been announced dead earlier last week but the rumors where immediately dismissed by the Uganda People’s Defense Forces through its Deputy Spokes Person, Lt Col Deo Akiiki.

Apparently, his body has been transferred to Bombo Military Mortuary as the funeral arrangements await.

Major General Kasirye Ggwanga,68, was a Ugandan senior military officer in the Uganda People’s Defence Force.

He was previously incarcerated as a prisoner of war for 897 days, inside both Uganda and Tanzania.

He was a presidential advisor on Buganda Kingdom affairs. He was well respected for his fight towards environmental protection.

He was born in 1952, in Mubende District, to a father who was a hunter and farmer. Kasirye Ggwanga learned both skills and is still good at both.

He attended Katakala Primary School, then he studied at Kibuli Secondary School for his O-Level education. After finishing Senior 4, he joined the Uganda Army in 1972.

Kasirye Ggwanga was a married father. He was a commercial farmer and owned two farms; one in Mubende District, and another in Mukono District that measures 200 acres (0.81 km2) which he referred to as his Camp David.
