CDF Gen. David Muhoozi apologizes for Military assault on journalists

By Website writer; The Chief of Defense Forces Gen. David Muhoozi has apologized on behalf of the forces for the beating meted out against journalists covering NUP’s Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert on Wednesday.

Gen. Muhoozi describes the incident is as regrettable, not justified, and not sanctioned.

Some of the victims identified in the incident include; John Cliff Wamala (NTV Uganda), Joseph Sabiiti (NBS TV), Rashida Nakaayi (Galaxy FM), Timothy Murungi (Vision Group), Irene Abalo (Daily Monitor), Josephine Namakumbi (NBS TV), and Jeff Twesigye (NTV Uganda).

That incident is regrettable, and I want to take this opportunity to extend my apologies to those friends of ours who were assaulted. The excesses exhibited were not sanctioned nor were they justified,” Gen. David Muhoozi stated.

He said that it’s the forces mandate to maintain a humble relationship with the media fraternity and public.

The UPDF cares and recognizes the importance of a smooth partnership with the media and of course the population, our bedrock,” he added.

Ge. Muhoozi also assured that there will never such unlawful assault on either the journalists or the public.

Therefore, we would be the last people to target journalists or anyone for that matter in an illegitimate way.

CDF further notes that justice is being aligned to the victims in this matter.

Appropriate action will therefore be taken against the identifiable culprits and you will be accordingly informed.
