By Website Writer; The National Resistance Movement (NRM) today Thursday, April 1, 2021, disqualified its own candidates; Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga and her deputy Hon. Jacob Oulanyah from the tight speakership race.
This is after the two candidates’ failure to comply with the political party’s rules imposed.
According to the official statement, NRM highly recognizes both Kadaga and Oulanyah’s remarkable efforts in the party but their current verbal brawl are a huge threat to the party’s reputation.
“As the National Resistance Movement, we cherish harmony and unity among our leaders. Those two attributes have led us to several achievements and milestones before. We don’t want our great party the NRM to be torn apart simply because of differences among its senior leaders,” the NRM statement reads in part.
Consequently, the NRM party has decided to disqualify the two candidates from the 11th Parliament speakership race.
“Therefore, on this basis, it is NRM’s considered view that Right Hon Rebecca Kadaga and Rt, Hon Jacob Oulanyah be disqualified from the race for the speaker of the 11th Parliament,” it adds.
The party also promises to discuss the matter in a meeting expected to ake place after April 1, 2021.
“The meeting will be held any time soon, after April Fools day, which falls today,” concluded the statement,” it ended.
It is said that in a meeting on Monday with President Museveni who is also the party chairperson, Kadaga and Oulanyah were ordered to cease campaigns that had sparked verbal blood-shed fouling the NRM party’s reputation but they refrained.
On Wednesday, President Museveni tabled a statement announcing their disqualification from the race so as to preserve harmony and unity in the party.
