Mao calls for a united Uganda to avoid “pay as you go” politics in Museveni’s new Government

The Democratic Party President General Norbert Mao has called upon President Museveni to address the issue of unity that is affecting the country’s stability.

While addressing journalists today at the party headquarters in Kampala, the party president appealed to President Museveni to Unite Ugandans in his new term of office to form a binding common objective as a fulcrum that will pivot Uganda to Economical success.

“Before the colonialists came and created something called Uganda, we had building blocks of Uganda, Ankole, Kigezi, Rwenzori Buganda, Busoga and so on. The glue that’s been keeping those building blocks together is falling apart” he said.

Mao also pointed out how selfish politicians are saying they do not seem to be committed to Uganda by the way they talk and how Ugandans group themselves in tribes, looking for which tribe has the most scholarships and most positions in Government.

“Our expectation as DP is that priority number one is to rally the country. The biggest advantage of that is it will reduce the cost of politics. The ruling Party won’t have to go into the pay as you go politics for paying their own party members to pass bills that they pretend to have approved as a party”

President Mao says Ugandans need to have a constitution they believe in just like the 1995 constitution hence the need to restore the constitution since the current one is in tetters.

“So, we are calling for a constitutional review process so that Ugandans can have a constitution they believe in like the 1995 constitution before they started getting out its vital organs like term limits, age limits, now they are attacking land, they still want the Government to have the power to grab land without compensation”

Taking about Uganda’s economy, Mao said the Government should tackle interest rates problem that makes banks ask for high interest rates due to the political uncertainty in the country and also adopt a low tax policy

On the Emyooga issue that President Museveni set up to elevate Ugandans from poverty, Mao rubbished the program saying it cannot help elevate Ugandans from poverty since they gather from various places to form a group which lacks a social connection since they are not closely connected so they just gather to take the money but not to develop
