NRM set for polls in the speakership race. Speaker and deputy speaker to be voted on secret ballot by NRM MPs.

After a heated argument on who will take the biggest position in Parliament, Jacob Oulanya and Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga will battle it out on the ballot paper in order to earn their rightful place in the big seat.

The speakership position has had Jacob Oulanya, the former deputy speaker of the 10th Parliament eagerly waiting a long 5 years for his turn for the seat since 2016 when he reached a consensus with Rebecca Kadaga to let her finish 10 years then hand it over to her deputy.

However, this year when the Busoga woman MP Kadaga expressed no interest in relinquishing her seat for her deputy, Oulanya sprung up in protest leading to a shake in the party.

After President Museveni intervened and made it clear that anyone eyeing the big seat should battle it alone, a retreat was set up in kyankwanzi to resolve the issue and a decision was reached that the Speaker and Deputy speaker position shall be contested by secret ballot

Yesterday, the National Resistance Movement party introduced a roadmap for the election of the two positions for any interested NRM PM in the 11th parliament wishing to contest.

Dr. Tanga Odoi the Electoral Commissioner of the party said that all those who express interest in the positions should write to the electoral commission for their names to be considered.
