Government issues strict measures to curb covid 19 infections

The president of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni while speaking to the public in his Nakasero Residence issued new guidelines that Ugandans should follow in a bid to curb the rising covid 19 cases in the country.

With a total of 748,676 people vaccinated out of a total 21.9 million eligible persons projected by the government to be vaccinated,  the President said that the government is doing all it can to secure 300,000 doses from USA China and Russia

following a high covid 19infection rate of about 1259 new cases and  6000 reported cases since 29th May 2021, the government thought it wise to make some adjustments in order to prevent the spread of the virus

the new measures are as follows

All schools to close on 7th June at 8:00am for 42 days

All teachers to get vaccinated before being accepted to teach

Communal prayers suspended for 42 days

publicgatherings banned for 42 days except for government,  cabinet and legislative bodies.

travel from categor “A” countries (india) suspended except for Ugandan nationals returning to the country

Agriculture to continue normally

factories, construction sites, shopping malls and supermarkets to operate with strict S.O.Ps

Taxi parks and hotels to operate with strict guidelines or else close within a week of failed following of guidelines.

Parties such as weddings and introductions allowed with a maximum of 20 people under strict SOPs

house parties banned

burial events allowed with a maximum of 20 people

weekly markets (bubuulo) and monthly cattle markets (ebikomera) suspended for 42 days

starting 10th june, all public transport crossing districts banned with exception of Kampala, Wakiso and Mukono to allow a 3 day space for school going children to go back home.

Trucks carrying people to move with a maximum of 2 people on board ie driver and one other

Tourist and essential vehicles allowed to move following stricken SOPs

Bars, concerts and cinemas to close

sports events to open without spectators

all public places to maintain high levels of higyne, wearing of face masks among other SOPs.

Privatevehicles allowed to operate with not more than 3 occupants including driver

salons, lodges without bars and garages to operate until 7:000pm

Boda transport open for carrying goods or not more than one person to 6:000pm.

The president warned of closure of facilities and transport if adherence to the guidelines is not followed and said enforcement of directives and responsibilities lies with owners with a fine given to those who breach guidelines payable in back after being issued with a “ddefault ticket”

“All the above directives take immediate effect” the president warned.
