The General Court Martial in Makindye has released on bail supporters of the National Unity Platform that were arrested during presidential campaigns in Kalangala in December 2020. They supporters included Buken Ali alias Nubian Li and Edward Ssebuwufu also known as Eddie Mutwe.
The General Court Martial chairperson, Lt. Gen Andrew Gutti said that the court listened to submissions from both the applicant and respondents before coming up with the decision to release them.
“This court has deliberated on this application and rules as follows; applicants have spent long on remand, in the result, this court finds merit in the application and hereby grants bail to the applicants,” Lt Gen Gutti said in his ruling.
However court set strict rules they should follow
The court told the Applicants not to go leave Wakiso and Kampala without permission from court. The application were to report to the court twice a month after every 14 days on Wednesdays. Each applicant was bound to a 20 million not cash and sureties given a 50 million not cash. Further more, the applicants are to report to court as and when required.
Lt. Gen. Andrew Gutti reminded the supporters that if the above were not followed, this will lead to automatic cancellation of thier bail.
