By Website Writer; The Deputy Speaker Anitah Among has declared, National Resistance Movement’s Hon. James Kakooza as the elected representative to East African Legislative Assembly to replace deceased Hon. Mathias Kasamba. This follows the former Kabula Member of Parliament gathering 183 votes with no MPs voting against or abstaining.
Last week at Kololo Independence grounds, Hon. James Kakooza was nominated and voted by NRM Caucus members for the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) by-election.
Hon. Kakooza won the slot with 92 votes beating his closest rival Hon Godfrey Suubi Kiwanda, the former Mityana North Member of Parliament who got 85 votes.
On Sunday, July 25, 2021, Hon. Kakooza’s nomination was approved by the Parliament of Uganda.
“In accordance with Rule 11(2) of the Rules of Procedure for the election of Members of EALA as contained in Appendix 8 to the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament of Uganda, notice is hereby given that Hon. James Kakooza is the successfully nominated candidate for election by the Parliament of Uganda to the fill the vacancy at the EALA,” Parliament said.
This meant Kakooza was unopposed in the race to replace deceased Mathias Kasamba.
East African Legislative Assembly is the legislative arm of the East African Community.
