If you thought Ugandans were hard hit by the COVID-19 pandemic and have resorted to desperate means to cover up their losses, then you definitely have to believe that Ugandan musicians take the front seat.
It is true that the music industry has been under lock and key since March 2020 when president Yoweri Museveni put a stop to all festivals, carnivals, crusades, and concerts, avenues through which the music industry and its players derived its livelihood.
However, most Ugandans are furious that, although it’s fair to say they have been affected, their move to demand money in Billions from Gen Salim Saleh, a brother to President Yoweri Museveni and a known benefactor to the music industry has been termed as greedy and selfish on the part of the artistes involved.
Weeks ago, artistes under their association dubbed “United Music Superstars Association” trekked to Gulu to meet Gen Saleh and table their demands in what most Ugandans have called an act of begging.
The artistes met Gen. Saleh and tabled their pleas before him with the hope of being bailed out of their deplorable conditions and to help them cover their losses incurred as a result of their cancelled concerts.
Artistes such as Jose Chameleone, David Lutalo, Karole Kasita, Pallaso, Bebe Cool, B2C, Kabako, John Blaq, Vinka, Azawi, among others.
However, a letter addressed to Gen Saleh by the artistes has surfaced in which each artiste is asking to be bailed out with hundreds of millions.
For example, Chameleone asks for 800Million, David Lutalo asks for 420Million, Bebe Cool 670 Millions, among others. The staggering demands have left Ugandans speechless wondering whether the artistes are not inflating their losses.
It remains to be seen whether Saleh actually did or will meet the singer’s demands.
