CID arrests govt officials for Ugx. 600Million fraud

By Website Writer; On Wednesday, September 2, 2021, detectives at Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters recovered Ugx 600Million from some suspects of Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC).

According to the CID Spokesperson Charles Twiine, the money was destined for another accomplice in crime, was part of the 3Billion loot that had passed through an account of a fictitious Commission agent.

It is also said that some officials from the Electoral Commission (EC) have been mentioned in the alleged embezzlement of funds at UPPC.

However, taking it to its social media platforms on Thursday, EC has declined involving in the alleged crime at UPPC.

EC has noted a story in media reporting that its officials have been mentioned in the alleged embezzlement of funds at the Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC). During the General Elections, EC published several election-related content with UPPC.

EC followed procedures for placement of notices and paid for published content. We are constrained to comment on internal financial operations of other institutions, nevertheless, EC will provide any information that may be required by agencies investigating the above allegation,” EC statement reads.
