By Website Writer: Today, Tuesday, November 16, 2021, the Parliament of Uganda has called-off its sitting that had earlier been slated.
This is after Uganda security team ordered the evacuation of everyone at Parliament following an explosion at Parliamentary Avenue in Kampala.
“Today’s Parliamentary sitting is off and MPs and staff who are not yet here are advised to stay away due to the incidents which just happened on Parliament Avenue and other parts of #Kampala. #StaySafe,” reads a tweet by the Parliament of Uganda.
Shock and horror continue grip Ugandans after 2 explosions rocked Kampala City Centre in the morning hours of Tuesday.
In unpredicted incidents, the first explosion shut the Parliamentary Avenue just next to the Jubilee Insurance offices, meters away from the Parliament’s main gate.
The second explosion hit next to Kooki towers, near the Central Police Station offices. The CPS offices had windows shattered due to the explosion.
“We can see pieces of flesh scattered all over the road and some people injured,” said NTV Uganda reporter, Sudhir Byaruhanga.
Two bodies have so far been recovered after an explosion on Parliamentary Avenue in the heart of Kampala.
Also, over 24 casualties are being treated at Mulago Hospital right now following the twin explosions.
Several Uganda security agencies arrived at both scenes of crime and cordoned them off as further investigations proceed.
