By Website Writer; Ugandan satirical novelist Kakwenza Rukirabashaija has fled the country for Europe, his lawyer Eron Kizza notes.
Kakwenza who’s facing charges allegedly related to insulting President Museveni and his son Muhoozi Kainerugaba via his novel publications.
He is reported to have feared being hurt further by the government security agencies as he was during the most recent time he was arrested.
Kakwenza is believed to have rushed to exile even without his passport after it was held by courts of law last month when he was granted bail.
The now most fabled novelist on the motherland was first arrested in December 2021 and detained to an unknown place.
This sparked serious tremble among his family and friends hence demanding government for his immediate lawful production.
Kakwenza was later confirmed to be in Kitalya Prison, presented before Buganda Road Court Chief Magistrate Douglas Singiza and granted a cash bail of Shs. 500,000. His four sureties executed a none cash bond of 10 million Shillings each.
He applied for bail in order to seek medical attention after sustaining serious injuries from the reported torture in the custody by the military.
However, the author was rearrested by security officers dressed in civilian and taken to unidentified destination, prompting online demonstrations from his friends as they questioned the government’s move.
Nevertheless, he was dumped at his home in Iganga days later after his unlawful arrest.
Kakwenza revealed how he was tortured by the military as he paraded serious injuries on his entire body.
The latest, is that Kakwenza has got to South African country Malawi.
