By Website Writer; Its now confirmed that fabled City lawyer Male Mabirizi will serve an imprisonment term at Kitalya government prison for 18months.
This follows his arrest on Monday after spending one week in hideout from security forces.
Justice Musa Ssekaana at High Court had earlier sentenced Mabirizi to 18 months in jail after being found guilty of contempt of court.
Upon his arrest from the entrance of Kyambogo University, the controversial lawyer was taken to Jinja Road Police Station and later sent to Kitalya.
This was in respect of the arrest warrant dated February 15, 2022 issued against him, Kampala Metropolitan deputy Police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire notes.
Prisons spokesperson, Frank Baine has also confirmed the development when contacted.
“He reached by around 7:30pm yesterday,” Baine told a respected source on phone.
Mabirizi’s unfortunate season sparked when High Court fined him Shs.300Million after being found guilty of contempt of court.
He was also warned of deflating judges but Mabirizi declined the court advise.
Furthermore, an application was filed in court seeking for punishment to the lawyer over his persisted attacks against judicial officers.
The ’18 months sentence’ resultant ruling by Justice Musa Ssekaana was after Mabirizi was asked to defend himself over the matter.
“Mabirizi never presented himself to court after being summoned and neither did he file affidavits to deny the allegations against him. Court has been left with no option but to order for his arrest on sight and be taken to prison for 18 months,” Ssekaana ruled.
The lawyer has however insisted that the orders by Justice Ssekaana are illegal arguing that no man can be a judge in his own cause.
He consequently ran to the Court of Appeal to challenge all orders including one of fining him Shs. 300 million and imprisoning him 18 months.
The Court of Appeal is expected to hear the application for stay of execution of these orders today.
