By Our Reporter; Spiritual uncertainty has gripped the Uganda National Roads Authority (URA) team in charge of the Busega-Mpigi expressway works.

This is after tree owners asking for Shs.500 million as compensation before it’s cut down to pave way for Busega-Mpigi expressway works.

Uganda National Roads Authority has offered Shs.150 million but the owners say it’s not enough to appease the clan spirits in the tree.

The Busega-Mpigi expressway is a 23.7Kilometers project launched in 2019 to link Kampala to Mpigi, was contracted to China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCCC) and China Railway 19th Bureau Group (U).

The 2hours road drive is co-funded with support from the African Development Fund (ADF) and African Development Bank (ADB).

The works had earlier been planned for 30months, but it was interrupted by the Covid-19 global outbreak.

The Expressway, which is expected to cover upto Mpanga Forest in Mpigi, shall contain four toll plazas, 13 bridges and several interchanges as well access roads expected to further spur economic development of the country.
