President Museveni directs on Oulanyah’s mourning

By Website Writer; H.E YK Museveni has released guidelines on the fallen Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon. Jacob L’Okori Oulanyah’s mourning.

President Museveni handover the Uganda Court of Arms instrument of power to the Late Jacob Oulanyah during his election as Speaker of Parliament in May 2021.

In statement posted on his Twitter on Monday, President Museveni delivered his condolences to the family of the deceased and Ugandans.

Countrymen and Countrywomen: Yesterday, at about 12.40pm, it was my sad duty to announce the untimely death of our Speaker, the Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah, MP for Omoro. I extend my condolences, the condolences of my family and of all Ugandans to the children of Oulanyah and to his wider family,” President Museveni wrote.

He also added directives to see the Late Jacob Oulanyah respectfully sent-off and these are:

  1. The government and the NRM will always stand with them. I will say more about Rt. Hon. Oulanyah in the coming days.
  2. Secondly, I have activated the National Organizing Committee, under the Hon. Babalanda, to organise the official burial of the Late Speaker. They know what to do.
  3. Thirdly, I direct that the flags in Uganda fly at half- masts until the burial of the Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah. This is provided for in the official burials’ procedures.

President Museveni also promised to communicate more details in the days.

Government of Uganda, through the minister for ICT and National Guidance, Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi on Sunday promised to issue an official statement about the burial arrangements of Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah on Tuesday, March 22, 2022.

Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, said the government is scheduled to convene a meeting with Oulanyah’s family to discuss preparations for returning the body from the US.

We have to accord the speaker a decent burial. We urge fellow countrymen and women to continue praying for the members of the deceased’s family,” he said.

Hon. Oulanyah breathed his last on Sunday, March 20, 2022 morning in Seattle, USA where he was being attended to under Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

His death comes in just 3days to his 57th birthday on March 23, 2022.
