By Website Writer; Traffic was paralyzed around Kampala today Tuesday, April 5, 2022 as the hearse carrying the casket containing the body of the deceased former Speaker Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah heroically made its way to Parliament.
In a sombre mood, Members of Parliament led by the Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anitah Among and Deputy Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa received the casket in full honors.
Close to the Parliamentary main gate, members from the Uganda Bikers Association riding on different state-of-art motorbikes, joined the casket envoy as it accessed the parliament premises.
Acholi Bwola Dancers were present to escort the body of late Speaker.
The Speaker of parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Among chaired the special plenary sitting in honor of the fallen speaker.
Speaker Rt. Hon. Anita Among eulogized the Late Oulanyah as the best leader she has immediately worked with.
“I was privileged to work with Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah as his deputy, and I can assure you; you can never have a better leader,” Rt. Hon. Anita Among.
She also appreciated the President of Uganda, H.E YK Museveni for the enormous support he rendered to fight to save the life of the Late Speaker.
“I want to thank the President of Uganda for doing everything humanly possible to save the life of the late Speaker Jacob Oulanyah, including taking him to one of the best hospitals in Seattle, USA,” Rt. Hon. Among added.
Hon. Among further extended her appreciation to fellow legislators for standing with the Oulanyah through his last days on earth.
“I want to thank the Parliament for everything done to stand with the Speaker. We had to forego several things.”
In Parliament, members of the Uganda Bikers Association raised their helmets as they paid their last respects to their colleague, the late Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah.
The Vice-President of the Republic of Uganda, H.E. Alupo Jessica and Prime Minister of Uganda Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja signed in the condolence book for the late Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah at Parliament.
The body is expected to lie in state at Parliament throughout the night.
On Wednesday April 6, 2022 at 9:00AM the body will be taken to Kololo Ceremonial Grounds for a State Funeral led by the H.E YK Museveni.
