By Website Writer; H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni yesterday Wednesday, July 20, 2022 addressed the nation on the current state of affairs in the country.
The address that kicked off about 9:00PM was about issues of national importance that entailed around the economic, political, and security sectors.
President Museveni basing at State House Nakasero, pointed out that the killers of the Kamwokya councillor, Mr. Kakooza James, UCU student Michael Betungura Buwatte, and others in Uganda will be hunted down and dealt with like the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) is dealing with Allied Democratic Forces (ADF).
Museveni also tackled the current Covid-19 status in Uganda which he said that the country has been able to at least overcome. This is because citizens listened to the advice of the technical team (Covid-19 Task Force).
He revealed that Ministry of Health reports; in the two years, a total of 167,000 were infected and 3,626 succumbed in Uganda, statics that he explained being far better than in other countries.
Its further revealed that over 14,000 children got infected with Coronavirus. Seven children aged between 5 and 17 years died. He also directed the Ministry of health to make sure that vaccines are available for all children during the holidays.
President Museveni also talked about the current global fuel crisis that has seen escalating prices on the world market.
He revealed the new global market plan started by the European countries and America to faze-out all oil usages and resources in the world. This has caused severe panic among the oil mineral stakeholders, hence rising prices of oil products.
Museveni also said that even if the Ugandan oil is refined, it cannot be sold at a lower price than the global prices.
President pointed out that the middle-term and long-term solution to the expensive fuel is the electric cars and using the train. Once people get tired of the high diesel price, they’ll shift to the train.
He confirmed that Uganda is now focusing on how to implement electronic cars to evade costly fuel.
The President also suggests that the country should turn to railway transport for both cargo and passengers to avoid the high cost of road transport.
The head of state asserted that instead of spending money on these existing problems (high commodity prices) Uganda should survive there by living within our means then we’ll migrate to better solutions like import and commodity substitution.
