By Website Writer; Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is on a working visit in Uganda, Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman announced Monday.
Lavrov touched down at Entebbe International Airport on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 morning and welcomed by Minister of foreign affairs; Hon. Gen. Jeje Odongo.
He and delegation later held bilateral talks with H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and addressed a joint press conference at State House – Entebbe.
Uganda is the third stop of a tour of African countries for the Russian top diplomat.
On Sunday, the government said on Twitter it was a two-day visit.
“President Yoweri Museveni who last visited Russia in 2019 has called for stronger bilateral relations especially in the areas of defense and security, economic and technical cooperation,” the government wrote.
It came hot on the heels of a landmark where the European Union (EU) AND United Nations (UN) asked all countries to blacklist and cease any form of collaboration with Russia following its invasion on Ukraine.
Uganda is among the countries that didn’t officially disclose their relationship status with Russia since the spark of the Russia-Ukraine war in February 2022.

Lavrov has also visited Congo-Brazzaville and is later due in Ethiopia.
