By Website Writer; The D-day is finally here as Soroti City East heads to the polls for the Member of Parliament after sleepless nights in campaigns.
On July 21, 2022, the Electoral Commission (EC) flagged off contestants for by-elections with National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) Hon. Herbert Edmund Ariko and Forum for Democratic of Change’s (FDC) Attan Moses Okia as the top competitors for the seat.
As a political norm, FDC leaders led by founder Kizza Besigye, Erias Lukwago, Nandala Mafabi among others camped and campaigned for their Attan Moses.
They were later joined by National Unity Platform (NUP) President, Bobi Wine.
President YK Museveni, the NRM Chairman joined a group of bigwigs in the NRM government- the Vice President – Jessica Alupo, Prime Minister – Robina Nabanja and Teso ministers who had also camped in the region to rally for their candidate Hon. Herbert Edmund Ariko.
While addressing crowd at the St. Kizito Technical Institute, President Museveni appealed to the people of Soroti East to send him Hon Herbert Ariko to parliament to quicken service delivery in their region.
“The purpose of politics is not to choose leaders but to get people to ask themselves which party can help us solves our problems,” said President Museveni.
In the morning hours of Thursday, July 28, 2022, FDC’s Attan Moses was the first candidate to cast his vote at Cell C and D Central Polling Station in Soroti gardens.
Attan seeks to retain his seat at Soroti East legislator in the 11th Parliament.
