Government conditionally okays Nyege Nyege festival

By Website Writer; It’s now a moment of celebration for the party animals after government clearing the Nyege Nyege festival to take place as earlier planned.

This follows an intense that sparked after Parliament of Uganda directing Ministries of Tourism and Ethics and Integrity to ban the forthcoming event on claims of promoting immorality.

The famous ‘Nyege Nyege’ controversy there after saw Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Nabbanja Robinah call for a meeting on Wednesday morning with all stakeholders to discuss the matter relating to hosting the now 8-years-old event.

It was from the meeting that the festival was okayed to happen but within the guidelines to be stipulated by the Ministry of Ethics and Integrity.

In a Press interview, Prime Minister Nabbanja revealed that a number of resolutions that have been reached in the meeting and among these is to harmonize with the parliament’s view about the event.

The Prime Minister also noted that the event’s celebration activities will take place on condition of respecting the Ugandan morals, culture and norms.

A number of resolutions have been reached. One of them is to harmonize with the arm of parliament to see that this event takes place with guidelines that will respect those that are coming with celebrating the event to behave in a manner that is acceptable by Ugandan cultures,” Rt. Hon. Nabbanja Robinah said.

Earlier on Tuesday, September 7, 2022 the Minister of State for Ethics & Integrity Hon. Akello Rose Lilly had clarified some of the guidelines for the Nyege Nyege event to happen, and these include;

– Children below 18 shouldn’t attend

– Nobody should go to that event naked

– Nobody should go to Nyege Nyege with any form of body exposure.

Nyege Nyege festival, an annual social event that has been going down at Itanda Falls – Jinja since 2015.
