Salama School fires fear 11dead, and 6 hospitalized

By Website Writer; Tears and grief as a fire gutted Salama School for the blind in Mukono at 1AM, leaving many dead, Police says.

Deputy Police Spokesperson, Kampala Metropolitan ASP Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the Mukono Fire outbreak in a Police statement released on Tuesday, October 25, 2022.

The Police at Mukono are investigating a fire outbreak that took place today at about 1am at SALAMA School for the Blind in Luga Village, Ntanzi parish, Ntejeru Kisoga town council in Mukono district,” ASP Luke Owoyesigyire said.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown but so far 11 deaths as a result of the fire have been confirmed while 6 are in critical conditions and admitted at Herona Hospital in Kisoga.

Since January, close to 18 incidents of fires have been reported in several parts of Uganda according to Police reports.

Salama School for the Blind was founded in 1999 by a blind educator who wanted to provide quality education for the blind.
