By Website Writer; The long-awaited newly refurbished Nakivubo Stadium is soon complete, Kampala City tycoon Hamis Kiggundu confirms.
Ham shared the pleasant news about the construction progress of the stadium via his Twitter account on Tuesday.
“Good progress at Nakivubo Stadium construction site. Alhamudulillah, For God and my Country,” Ham Kiggundu stated.
Once complete, the 35000-seater Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium, currently at 75%, is expected to house sports activities like athletics, netball, bodybuilding, basketball, volleyball, among other sports activities, apart from the main football facility.
In November 2022, Justice Ssekaana Musa of the High Court (Civil Division) issued an order striking out the pleadings and/or dismissing the consolidated suits in HCCS No. 66/2017, HCCS No. 678/2017, HCCS No. 330/2013, HCCS No. 351/2018, and HCCS No. 134/2017 against Ham and the board of trustees Nakivubo stadium.
The board of Nakivubo says that the land was gazetted to be used in the development of sports and other related activities. However, in the years past, it was subject to land heavy encroachment by all sorts of people, engaging in several kinds of personal activities contrary to the user purpose contained in the Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium Trust Act Cap. 47.
The board added that in a bid to revamp the Stadium and redeem it from encroachers, they executed a Memorandum of Understanding with Mr. Ham to redevelop it. He was consequently granted leases on the land for the construction of lock-up shops and the re-development of the Stadium is currently at an advanced stage.
