By Website Writer; Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) and National Identification and Registration Authority – Uganda (NIRA) have implored students studying under the Revised O’ Level Secondary Curriculum to get National IDs before they are subjected to UNEB’s Continuous Assessment (CA).
In an official statement released by UNEB on Wednesday, the exam body is embracing on the nationwide exercise to register learners in secondary schools for purposes of collecting Continuous Assessment (CA) scores with effect from Term One of 2023.
This is in accordance with the Revised Lower Secondary School Curriculum.
Accordingly, all secondary schools are required to register with UNEB to be able to submit the CA scores of their learners.
To facilitate the process of uniquely identifying learners, this holiday, NIRA is prioritizing registering and issuing of National Identification Numbers (NINs) to all learners countrywide.
To this end, NIRA shall set up registration desks at Boma grounds across major cities countrywide.
Learners are therefore encouraged to maximise this holiday to know their NIN registration status.
Parents/guardians are advised to note and avail the following requirements to their children for registration;
- A copy of parent(s) National ID if alive or a copy of blood relative’s national ID if both parents are deceased, the recommendation letter from the blood relative stating the type of relation to the child.
- A dully filled NIRA enrollment/registration FORM 3 filled on behalf of the learner by either parent/guardian /teacher if learner is below 18 years and by the learner if above 18 years.
- Present the learner for capture of biometrics (face & fingerprints) together with the parent/guardian’s original national ID.
However, leaners that previously registered with NIRA are required to first verify their registration status to determine whether to proceed with providing fresh information for NIRA Registration.
NIRA Registration is confirmed by a National Identification Number (NIN).
A child’s NIN can be verified by;
- Downloading a child’s NIN slip from NIRA the NIRA website (nira.go.ug)
- Dialing *216# and following the prompts
- Visiting the nearest NIRA office to confirm status of the earlier registration.
