By Website Writer; National Unity Platform (NUP) President Bobi Wine has trashed claims made by NUP supporter Eric Mwesigwa that his torture was staged by the party leadership to tarnish government image.
On Wednesday, Mwesigwa Eric told journalists at Mbuya Military Barracks that he was promised UGX. 50Million by NUP leaders to have pain inflicted on him, purposed to shade a bad image on the government.
Mwesigwa’s revelations have since shocked the public, leaving the opposition side’s usual claims against the government wondering.
However, Bobi Wine has come out and poured defense for his and NUP’s stand on this case.
According to Bobi Wine, Mwesigwa has of the past period been in a bitter relationship with them (NUP) despite them running to rescue him from the fresh pains.
Bobi Wine says that parading him by the UPDF is an a renowned out-fashioned trick usually played by the government in its strides to ruin its opposers.
“The shameless, criminal regime at it again! Same old tricks. Same ridiculousness. Mwesigwa Eric has been complaining of being trailed ever since he spoke about his torture. Today, from an army barracks, they parade him to claim it’s NUP that tortured him! What a bunch of thugs!” Bobi Wine stated.
He also asserts that the later has ridiculous statements he made to the Uganda Human Rights Commission and Police pointing out armed security organs as one behind his torture.
“This same person in his complaint to Uganda Human Rights Commission is on record saying he was abducted by armed security personnel and gravely tortured. He also made a report at Police stating that since he returned from torture chambers, unknown people had been following him,” he adds.
“I wish to state that this is an amateurish attempt by the UPDF to spin the unfortunate torture of a citizen by the army, which confirms that indeed the torture meted out on Mwesigwa and others like him is sanctioned by the UPDF and other security agencies.”
The opposition has over the past 5years accused government of abducting and torturing its (opposition) supporters, something the state has declined.
