Patrick Mulwana, professionally known as Alien Skin, shared his life story, giving insight into how he dropped out of school and his tumultuous relationship with his mother.
The eccentric crooner has become an internet sensation because of his bombasticness. But it didn’t start with the music industry.
While appearing on CBS FM recently, Alien Skin said at one point his mother secured a loan to help him buy a motorcycle and join the Boda Boda industry. Skin topped up on the loan and acquire the motorbike.
He said he would work at night, but law enforcement officers would nab him occasionally because of lack of documentation. He wasn’t willing to play by the rules, so he quit.
“Every time I find a challenge, I know I’m in the wrong place,” Skin said. He ended up disassembling the bike and destroyed it.
His siblings and friends used to encourage me to hit the studio to sing but he would tell them he doesn’t see himself becoming a musician.
But he would also tell them singing would be the easiest thing for him to do because he had been through worse.
He said he always hung out with people older than him because he always thought he was more mature than his agemates.
His mother didn’t like the company he was keeping, but she eventually gave in.
He said she tried all sorts of things to lure him away from that life but she failed.
He said he also was unimpressed by the education system because he saw a lot of university-educated kids who turned into habitual drinkers in his village.
He always cited them whenever someone convinced him to rejoin school.
Among the siblings who convinced him to continue studying is D.J. Eric Pro. Pro is Skin’s elder brother.
Skin told him that if he [Pro] becomes successful in education, he won’t refuse to wash his cars.
He said he dropped out of school after a teacher told him that his mother had allowed them to beat him.
“I had always looked for a reason to leave school and there it was,” Alien Skin said.
Alien Skin started singing in 2017 as an underground rapper in the ghetto but began dropping jams regularly in 2019.
His single titled Tulabise, which was released in 2021, played a big role in spotlighting him after it was embraced by TikTokers as they danced and sang to it.
After dropping Tonkaka and Sitya Danger in 2022, he got the attention of key influencers in the industry.
