A yet to be identified Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldier has killed State Minister for Labour, Employment and Industries, Retired Colonel Charles Okello Engola Machodwogo.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that the officer screamed over non-payment before killing the minister and taking his own life.
The UPDF spokesperson, Felix Kulayigye, in a phone call with this reporter confirmed the murder of Engola, and said the UPDF has deployed a team to carry out investigations about the matter.
“Yes, Mr. Charles Okello Engola, the State Minister for Labour, Employment and Industries has been murdered,” Kulayigye confirmed.
Asked about reports that the officer was screaming over non-payment, Kulayigye said the army is yet to establish the truth.
“We can not rely on speculation. We have deployed a team at the crime scene to carry out investigations, and a report will be released very soon,” he told this reporter.
