Singer Moses Ssali alias Bebe Cool contacted slain blogger Isma Olaxes alias Jajja Iculi a few days before his murder, to warn him about his social media commentary.
Bebe Cool told the press at the send off of Isma in Nkonkonjeru, that he had attempted many times to warn the deceased to tone down his harsh political views.
“I have been talking to him many times. About three days ago I called him to talk to him about that video he made about the Minister, but he didn’t pick the call,” said the singer.
“For a long time, I have discussed with him about different issues of national importance. I tried to teach him to focus less on money and more on the love for his country. It took me a long time to convince him that Uganda is actually a good country, because he had lived for a while in Sweden.”
Days before his murder at his home in Kyanja on Saturday, May 6th, 2023, Olaxes had made a viral video in which he appeared to celebrate the murder of Minister of State Labour, Charles Engola.
The video has since been referenced by different commentators in the efforts to explain his murder in cold blood.
While addressing the mourners, an emotional Bebe Cool revealed that he convinced Olaxes to return to Uganda, having been intrigued by his view points.
“He had a very sharp mind; he was deeply analytical. I was the one who convinced him to return from Europe. This is very painful for me now because I have to live with this forever.” he said.
The singer, on the other hand, wished that Olaxes was involved in another occupation rather than social media and vlogging, as this might have sealed his fate.
“Unfortunately, social media tends to blind our judgment. Perhaps if he was a farmer or a musician, he would still be alive.”
Hundreds of mourners including bloggers, artists, politicians, family members and friends attended the burial of Olaxes at his home in Katwe in Nkokonjeru.
