Gravity Omutujju is sure his buddy Eddy Kenzo won’t rip off members of the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF).
During an interview, Omutujju was asked why he joined the Federation that’s been highly criticised by musicians he holds in high regard like King Saha.
Omutujju, who has worked on music projects with Kenzo, said the latter called him over the phone to join.
He said Kenzo promised him that the Federation provides a platform to change some things in the industry.
Omutujju believed him “He is not greedy… that he has come to ‘eat’ because he is not poor… Most of these things fail because people involved are trying to survive,” he said during the interview.
Omutujju is not the first musician to show confidence in the Federation.
Ykee Benda recently said: “… so they recently announced the interim leadership and I got my attention to see Eddy and [Sheebah Karungi], people I know to be people of integrity and then I saw [Juliana Kanyomozi and it really got me reconsidering.”
But the Federation has also been vehemently slammed by singers like Aziz Azion and John Blaq who believe there is no professionalism in there.
Some believe it’ll be used as a political platform by the government after seeing musicians meeting with key government leaders, including the Prime Minister and President Yoweri Museveni’s brother Gen. Salim Saleh is said to have a hand in its formation.
However, Gen. Saleh has always supported and worked with musicians.
Meanwhile, Kenzo and his committee have already the leaders of the Uganda Performing Rights Society (UPRS) to initiate the conversation on copyright issues.
