Deputy Speaker of Parliament Hon Thomas Tayebwa has said that fallen artist Paul Lubwama played a key role in instilling discipline among fellow MPs when he served in the 10th Parliament.
Tayebwa told mourners at the late Lubwama’s home in Mutundwe on Saturday, June 10, that he and his colleagues often unleashed the fearless Lubwama to humble some of the most showy and proud MPs.
“When we had someone that thought they were powerful, we would deploy Kato to handle that person,” said the deputy speaker.
“I remember we had a female MP who took herself very seriously, she thought she was all powerful, but one time we sent Kato and he handled her very well in the canteen; he really knew how to level everyone up.”
Tayebwa on the other hand faulted Ugandans who, he said, loved Kato Lubwama, but never really wished him well.
He cited an example of when the late was viciously attacked on social media, when he traveled abroad with his friend Muhammad Nsereko.
“I think that you Ugandans have love for people but you have no care. When Kato was taken abroad by Nsereko and you saw him in a pair of shorts and moccasins, you really went off on him. It is like you didn’t want him to have a little quality moment of his own.”
Addressing other concerns raised by artists led by Mariam Ndagire, the deputy speaker said the Government was this time ready to support the entertainment industry, as long as they are organized.
Tayebwa delivered Shs 10 million from Speaker Anita Among and himself to the bereaved family, and revealed that other MPs have also been separately fundraising and will deliver their own condolences to the family.
Lubwama, who passed away last Wednesday June 7th will be laid to rest next week on Wednesday at his ancestral home in Nkozi.
