Four people have been detained by the Chieftaincy for Military Intelligence (CMI) on suspicion of planning the murder of Ronnie Mukisa, a lawyer with IBC Advocates.
Mukisa was pursued and shot dead at his residence on May 31 in Kitiko-Birongo village, Ndejje Division of Makindye Ssabagabo Municipality in Wakiso District.
Maj Gen Geoffrey Katsigazi Tumusiime, the deputy inspector general of police, stated shortly after Mukisa was shot that all security agencies had been mobilised to quickly identify the offenders.
It has now been revealed that CMI, working with Crime Intelligence (CI) and the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), successfully located and apprehended four suspects last night; however, the suspects’ names are still being withheld.
Security agencies have attested the four suspects, according to Senior Commissioner of Police Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, but their identities won’t be made public right away.
He said the security authorities have been working hard to find the murderers ever since the crime.
After friends and relatives allegedly pointed fingers at Mukisa’s wife Dorah Birungi because the murder occurred a few weeks after their acrimonious breakup, police originally detained her. Prior to this, Birungi had left their marital house and travelled somewhere else.

Birungi had been held on purpose, according to the police, to aid in their inquiries. She was later granted bond and attended her husband’s funeral at the Joggo Trading Centre in the Mukono area of the Goma Division of Mukono Municipality.
This year’s traditional wedding (introduction) for Mukisa and Birungi took place in April. They reportedly intended to get married in a church, but a disagreement between them led to their eventual separation.
According to the victim’s neighbours, he frequently arrived home quite late. But on that terrible night, Mukisa showed up at the apartment’s parking spot about 2300 hours.
Mukisa parked his UBJ 006K-registered dark blue Subaru Legacy and started to shut the gate. Neighbours reported hearing gunshots as he entered the flat.
Aside from the murder of Mukisa, other significant killings in May included the death of Col. (rtd) Charles Okello Engola, the minister of state for labour, on May 2 by his bodyguard Pte. Wilson Sabiiti.
Using a pistol, vlogger Ibrahim Isma Tusubira alias Isma Olaxes aka Jjaja Ichuli was killed on May 6 in Kyanja, while Indian moneylender Uttam Bhandari was killed on May 12 by police officer Ivan Wabwire. Four private security officers were among the at least 10 victims of gun violence who were recorded in May.
