An unconfirmed number of presidential escorts of Kenyan President William Ruto sustained injuries on Wednesday evening after the vehicle they were moving in overturned.
The SUV, a black Lexus 570, reportedly lost control in a sharp bend and rolled near the Great Rift Valley Lodge in Naivasha, Nakuru County.
Kenyan media reported Wednesday, June 21, that the driver was speeding into the bend when he lost control and flipped the SUV.
The injured escorts were reportedly rushed to a hospital in Naivasha for treatment. There was no word yet from State House or the General Service Unit on the number of people injured and the degree of injuries by Wednesday evening.
The scene was quickly cordoned off by Kenya’s Elite General Service Unit (GSU) officers, who also barred locals from taking pictures.
It is understood according to several news outlets that President Ruto was not in the convoy as he had traveled by air to Naivasha to launch the WRC Safari Rally 2023 Shakedown.
The launch was a thrilling event that captured the attention of racing enthusiasts from Kenya and around the world.
President Ruto also got behind the wheel of one of the rally cars and enjoyed the adrenaline.
Addressing the rally participants, President William Ruto assured that Kenya would continue hosting the safari rally.
The WRC Safari Rally 2023 will not only provide thrilling entertainment but also had a significant impact on the local economy.
